ForestTECH News is the leading platform for regular communication and networking amongst Australasia’s forest resource managers, remote sensing, GIS & mapping specialists, inventory foresters and key suppliers of products, services or technology into this part of the forestry industry. This monthly resource was launched in early 2017.

Why was it set up?

Since 2007, the Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA) has run Australasia’s leading independent technology event for forest resource management and assessment, ForestTECH. It’s become the ONE technical event every year that’s attended by all major forestry companies from around New Zealand and Australia. Feedback from ForestTECH 2016 delegates is that they wished to connect during the year as well as in and around the annual ForestTECH events. They pointed to the ForestTECH website as the logical tool or vehicle to make this happen.

What’s it include?

The platform, www.foresttech.news is now actively being used by all those working in this part of the industry. It provides regular monthly updates on breaking news, results from recent research, product reviews, information on new equipment, product launches and events to forest resource managers and inventory foresters.

This monthly newsletter complements the two very popular weekly e-newsletters, www.fridayoffcuts.com and www.woodweek.com, as well as the monthly industry magazines already being produced for those working within the forest.

To always ensure we are providing the best content to our readers, we welcome contributions and comments to the stories posted. Please feel free to send us new articles, videos, reports and press releases that you think may be of interest to our readers.

While we do want to promote local and international content and experts, it is also important that we provide the right balance and depth in the stories - this includes minimising or removing, where possible, sales pitches. A good story could be a detailed case study, new technology, research, discussion on issues, or industry news. It could also be, as an example, tips on managing inventories, how wireless sensors are providing better monitoring, use of UAVs, etc.

Please send any stories, comments or suggestions to Brent Apthorp, brent.apthorp@fiea.org.nz.
