ForestTECH is Australasia’s premier technology series. It’s run annually for forest resource managers, remote sensing specialists, inventory foresters and tree crop managers
Event Summary
Another event record with over 300 delegates attending the end of year technology series, ForestTECH 2023 run by the Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA). Because of recent Covid travel and meeting restrictions, the ForestTECH series ran for the first time in three years in both Rotorua, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia. The industry (resource managers, inventory foresters, data capture, mapping and GIS specialists, tree crop managers and those involved in forest establishment) really turned out in force.
As well as meeting face to face, forestry companies from across Australia, Japan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia. Brazil, Chile, USA, Canada, Sweden, Finland and Latvia participated remotely with live streaming being offered from the NZ leg of the series. This in addition to similar turnouts over the last few years, again reinforces the international standing that this annual forestry technology series now has.
Since 2020, the cross over between new data collection technologies for forest estate reporting and operational planning and precision forestry innovations around forest establishment, mechanised planting and tree crop management have meant that these two major themes have been combined into the one single event. This same split, based on delegate feedback from the last on-line event run in February 2022, was again used very effectively for ForestTECH 2022. In addition to the conference, exhibitions and four pre-and post-conference workshops were also run for on-site delegates.

ForestTECH 2023?
Yes. Plans are to run ForestTECH 2023 in both countries again next year, in November 2023. Support to continue this major forest technology event, which has been run annually since 2007, was overwhelmingly given by this year’s delegates, sponsors and exhibitors.
Interested in presenting in 2023?
If by November next year, you or one of your colleagues would be interested to present and report back on:
- Recent trials
- Integration of research operationally into your forest operations
- Lessons from the roll-out of new technology
- Smart operating practices
Then we’d like to hear from you. Please forward details to brent.apthorp@fiea.org.nz.
Who Attended?
Over 300 representatives from the New Zealand, Australian and other international forestry industries, including: Forestry managers | Forest owners | Technical foresters | Forestry consultants | Forestry researchers | Forest resource managers | Inventory foresters | Technology & equipment suppliers | Harvest planners | Forest GIS & remote sensing specialists | Tree crop supervisors | Forest establishment | Silvicultural managers

Sponsorship & Exhibition Opportunities
ForestTECH offers a tremendous opportunity for companies involved in developing innovative tools, technologies and resources for forestry planning and management to maximise their exposure to New Zealand and Australia’s forestry companies.
FIEA has a well-deserved reputation of providing both sponsors with a unique platform for promoting their products and services to the industry in BOTH New Zealand and Australia.
Our partners can also benefit from exposure in the newly updated website, www.foresttech.news, which is now providing monthly communication to well over 6,000 resource managers and inventory foresters in this region.
Sponsorship and branding opportunities are available for other Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA) events and in the region’s most widely read weekly e-newsletters, Friday Offcuts and WoodWeek.
For a full range of sponsorship, exhibition and branding options, please contact Gordon Thomson, Sponsorship Manager, (+64) 7 921 1384 or (+64) 27 275 8022, gordon.thomson@fiea.org.nz.
